For Non-lactating queens

You need equal parts of:   Caraway seeds, Fennel seeds, Aniseed seeds and Stinging Nettle leaves.  Measure out enough of each to make 1 dessertspoon (or 10mls).

Steep the seed/leaf mixture in boiling water for 8 minutes then strain and allow to cool.  Give 1ml twice on the first day and 1 ml once on the second day.  The milk should start coming down after that.
Warning: Do NOT overdose as this may cause overproduction of milk which could lead to mastitis.
All the above ingredients are readily available in health food/organic produce stores except for aniseed seeds.  The recipe has been used without aniseed seeds and has worked just as well as with.

Hetty Berntrop, who gave us this recipe has now found that the tea is available at many places in NSW.  It is Weleda Nursing Tea and if you check out their website www.weleda.co.nz and go to the Stockists and then look under NSW you will find one near you.  If they don't stock it normally I am sure that they will get it in for you.

Feeding Tips

Tip 1:

I find this tip works wonders.
When introducing kittens to biscuits instead of  wetting of the biscuits,  I find that if I put kitten biscuits through the food processor and blend them until they are a fine meal (like biscuit crumbs) they tolerate them without any problems.

You then fold a little through their meat. That way they get the nutrition from the biscuits -  especially if you have lazy eaters or slow developers.     Christine Tracey.

Cats and Snakebites

Hetty & Jan have some friends in Adelaide who have had to deal with 12 cats being bitten by snakes over the past decade.  They only ever lost the first one which was before they found this remedy.  This treatment is also used by the Adelaide Zoo.

As soon as possible give the cat 10cc of "liquid vitamin C" subcutaneously (under the skin).  Repeat after 8 hours with 8cc.  They will recover without any other treatment.
